Yes. Grenades thrown into water have a chance to produce fish. A throw can produce no fish, so one empty explosion does not prove the method failed. Official fishing rule
Make a basic Grenade
The listed recipe uses a Bomb Pepper and a Copper Bar at an Alchemy Table. That table is made at a Tin Workbench with 8 Wood, 8 Slime and 5 Tin Bars.

A throw is a chance, not a catch
- Craft a basic GrenadeUse 1 Bomb Pepper + 1 Copper Bar at an Alchemy Table.
- Choose clear waterAim away from livestock and equipment in your base.
- Throw into the waterLet the explosion occur in water. Grenades bounce, so placement matters.
- Check and collectPick up any resulting fish. A throw may produce no fish.
Bring a small batch of basic Grenades and select one on your hotbar before aiming.
As a starting approach, use a simple pool away from your livestock and equipment rather than testing explosives inside a busy base. The item is an explosive weapon that bounces, so aim and placement matter.
Is this a levelling method?
Grenade fishing can grant fishing experience. Bring replacement grenades if you plan to use it for levelling, and collect the fish as you go.
